Arrival Time: 12.30pm

Message from Diane Lethbridge from AONB:

Essentially we will be celebrating the 70th anniversary of the 1949 act that established National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. AONBs across the country will be staging a National Moment at 2pm (new time 3pm) on the 21st by creating a heart in the landscape.

We have decided that our heart will be a ploughed heart in a coastal field (owned by the National Trust and farmed by Michael Wakeham) at Soar. Both have been consulted and are happy for us to proceed with the event. The plan is to surround the heart with farm machinery from the last 70 years, with the oldest and newest at the tip of the heart. Then surrounding the machinery hopefully community groups, Young Farmers although I realise there is a big farming wedding that day which will involves lots of Totnes and Kingsbridge members and the local school. 78% of the South Devon AONB is farmed so it seems fitting that our heart should have as its focus an agricultural theme. Mark will plough the heart ( exact size to be decided) a few days before the 21st

We are one of 4 AONBs to have been selected for funding to have a drone to film the ‘moment ‘ which should look fairly spectacular in full view of the coast. We will provide pasties and hot drinks for everyone participating and hopefully it will attract a reasonable amount of press and media interest. We are looking for a VIP to attend and say a few words but not confirmed as yet.

In terms of timing we would ask everyone to be there by 12.30pm at the latest to ensure we have time for refreshments and to set up the staging in advance of 3pm.
